Experts Roundtable: Enhancing cobalt supply chain due diligence in the DRC – A collaborative dialogue between Congolese civil society, industry stakeholders, and EU policymakers
December 12, 2024
9.00-10.30
Hotel Colonies, Brussels

The experts roundtable focuses on creating clear pathways for implementing the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) in third countries and across EU value chains reliant on cobalt sourced from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Hosted by Resource Matters and IPIS, this dialogue will bring together Congolese civil society, industry sector and EU policymakers to explore key aspects of due diligence in the cobalt supply chain. The discussion will cover three critical areas essential for effective due diligence implementation and guideline development specific to the extractive sector:

1. Supply chain data disclosure: Promoting transparency and the sharing of critical supply chain information.

2. Meaningful stakeholder engagement mechanisms: Ensuring companies develop and maintain robust, participatory dialogues with local communities.

3. Risk identification with a focus on environmental impacts: Understanding and addressing risks

This multi-stakeholder dialogue will provide valuable insights to inform the drafting of sector-specific guidelines and support companies in aligning their practices with EU regulatory expectations, fostering a responsible and sustainable cobalt supply chain.
