China plays a pivotal role in global transition mineral supply chains, but how has its minerals policy evolved to shape this dominance?
This panel will delve into the history and development of China’s mineral policies and discuss some of the economic, environmental, and governance factors underpinning its approach.
We will hear from former Chinese Judge Chen Yu of Global Witness, about the progression of China’s policy on minerals, and how Global Witness is working with the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC) to set up a first-of-its-kind complaint mechanism for communities to use with Chinese mining companies.
Other Chinese scholars and experts will discuss the policy levers and cultural environment in China, and we will also hear from community representatives looking to minimize harms from mining.
